Arabikatha – Movie Review

September 10th, 2009 No comments

Arabikkatha is a movie from one of the premiere directors of Kerala, Lal Jose. As most of his movies, this one also reflects the daily life of Malu community. Ive always belived that movies are an artistic reflection of the human nature. Lal Jose is a director of such movies, making movies about lives in an artistically realistic way.

Arabikkatha by its nature, is a communist movie and being a communist movie it points aganist the moral deterioration the left parties go through today. The hero of this movie is its theme, the thoughts and the powerfull script itself. In one of my earlier posts Ive said that i want every person in the world to see the movie ‘Guru’, on the same way, this movie is a must watch for all Malayalees.

The lead actress in the movie, a chineese national, Zhang Shumin

This is the second sucessfull movie of Lal Jose in an year time. Lal is becomming a brand like Priyadarshan who has the best color sense in world cinema. But Inlike Priyan, who was totally depended on Mohanlal’s acting skills, Lal Josedepends on the script of his movies and the variety of themes, so he has to be placed even higher.

Zhang Shumin:)

I also think that this movie is much related to the current political games in Kerala, the movie sounds a favorable tone to the current chief minister of Kerala, a leftist. It also made into news that the CM itself watched the movie on a theatre in the capital.

Kudos to Lal Jose for this wonder full piece of art!

Blood diamond – Movie Review

Blood diamond, says the story of how diamonds are born! and by the time when they reach your hands how many lives have lost for that piece of rock!

A realistic movie, supported by Amnesty international, one the best movies in last decade.

The civil war in Africa, the oil crises, the iraq war, the afghan war, the al-queda, the USA…everything is interconnected! The movie is not abt it..but after i watched the movie and was tryig to read abt conflict diamonds, i could find a connection between these.

Amnesty Report on Jan 2006
Conflict or blood diamonds fuel conflict, civil wars and human rights abuses. They have been responsible for funding recent conflicts in Africa which resulted in the death and displacement of millions of people. During these conflicts, profits from the illegal trade in diamonds, worth billions of dollars, were used by warlords and rebels to buy arms. An estimated 3.7 million people have died in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Liberia, and Sierra Leone in conflicts fuelled by diamonds.

While the wars in Angola and Sierra Leone are now over and fighting in the DRC has decreased, the problem of conflict diamonds hasn’t gone away.

Despite the fact that an international diamond certification scheme called the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme was launched in 2003, conflict diamonds from Côte d’Ivoire are finding their way through Ghana into the legitimate diamond market. As the brutal conflict in Sierra Leone has shown, even a small amount of conflict diamonds can wreak enormous havoc in a country. Between 1991 and 2002 over 50,000 people were killed, over 2 million displaced within the country or made refugees, and thousands mutilated, raped and tortured. Today, the country is still recovering from the consequences of the conflict.

The launch of the film Blood Diamond is a timely reminder that governments and the diamond industry must ensure that no conflict diamonds find their way into the consumer market.
